Lincoln's Rodent Problem

Lincoln sits at the perfect storm location for rodent activity. Our city's position where the Sacramento Valley meets the Sierra Nevada Foothills creates an ideal environment. The Auburn Ravine watershed system acts as natural rodent highways, bringing rats and mice directly from wild oak woodlands into Sun City Lincoln Hills, downtown Lincoln, and newer residential developments.

Identification Guide

Common Rodent Species in Lincoln

Understanding which species you're dealing with is the first step to effective control.

Roof Rats

Roof Rats

Agile Climbers

Roof rats are the most common invaders in Lincoln. They're agile climbers that access homes through tree branches, power lines, and rooflines. Peak activity occurs in fall and winter when they seek indoor shelter.

Norway Rats

Norway Rats

Ground-Dwelling Burrowers

Norway rats prefer ground-level entry points — foundations, crawl spaces, and damaged vents. They're most active during the wet season when saturated soil drives them to seek dry shelter indoors.

House Mice

House Mice

Most Common, Year-Round

House mice are the most frequently encountered rodent in Lincoln. They can squeeze through gaps as small as a dime, reproduce rapidly, and are active year-round in both older homes and new construction.

Construction Issues

Construction Vulnerabilities in Lincoln

Lincoln's building styles and soil conditions create unique entry points that rodents exploit.

Attached Garage Issues

Attached Garage Issues

Deteriorating weather stripping and utility penetrations in attached garages are the #1 entry point for rodents in Lincoln — especially in Sun City Lincoln Hills where aging seals create easy access.

Stucco Construction Gaps

Stucco Construction Gaps

Lincoln's clay soils cause foundation settlement over time, creating gaps between stucco walls and foundations. These openings — sometimes invisible from the outside — give rodents direct access to wall voids.

HVAC & Utility Penetrations

HVAC & Utility Penetrations

Modern open floor plans in Lincoln's newer developments require extensive HVAC ductwork and utility runs. Gaps around these penetrations through walls and ceilings are common rodent entry points.

Common Questions

Rodent Control FAQs

What does your rodent control process look like?
We start with an inspection of the exterior and interior, including the attic and sub area. We identify entry points, then begin treatment with exterior bait stations and interior trapping. After 2 to 4 weeks we conduct exclusion to seal all entry points and follow up as needed.
What is the difference between one-time treatment and the add-on plan?
With a one-time treatment, we use snap traps in the attic or sub area but cannot leave exterior bait stations. The add-on plan at $60 to $95 per month includes exterior bait stations maintained every two months for year-round prevention.
How does exclusion work?
Exclusion is a one-time service where typically two technicians seal all identified entry points. It can take several hours depending on the project size. All exclusion work is warrantied for 12 months when you are on a regular preventative plan.
How long does it take to get rodents under control?
On average about 30 days to see results. In some cases we begin trapping within seven days. Severe cases can take up to 60 days depending on conditions like nearby green belts, open fields, or food sources.
What time of year are rodents most active?
While rodents are a year-round issue, activity spikes in the colder months during winter. Rodents seek shelter inside structures where temperatures in attics and crawl spaces are more suitable.
What damage can rodents cause?
Rodents transmit diseases through contamination of food and surfaces. They chew on plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems causing costly damage. Over time they can damage and soil insulation, potentially requiring full replacement.
